‘The
Law Abortion
Information Paper'
(Submission
to the
Victorian Law Reform Commission)
|
|
In 2007 state MP
Candy Broad
introduced a Private Member’s bill decriminalising abortion.
In
response, Premier Brumby promised to decriminalise abortion, and
referred the issue to the Victorian Law Reform Commission. The
Commission received a number of submissions and has, since then,
submitted their recommendations to Government. For a copy of WHIN's

Women's Health Matters -
From Policy to
Practice - A 10 point plan for Victorian Women's Health 2010 - 2014
|
|
| |
In 2006 Victorian women's health services developed a comprehensive document, Women's Health Matters: From Policy to Practice - Setting the Agenda for Victorian Women's Health 2006 -2010
that included a 10 point plan. This was endorsed by almost 30 women's
services and other organsiations and was used to influence government
and other political parties in the lead up to the November 2006
elections.
The 10 point plan 2010 - 2014 builds on the 2006 document and
reiterates the call for a whole of government strategy and action plan
for improving women's health. The plan is cognisant of existing state
policies and service systems as well as emerging state and national
policies. It is imperative that these initiatives are developed in
close collaboration with the women's health sector, with a strong
emphasis on measurable, transparent outcomes. For full view of the
document

WHIN Member's Events
|
|
| |
WHIN is currently in the
planning stages
of the next member's workshop. To voice your ideas or for
more information please call Adriana on 9484 1666.
The last members' event was a visit to State Parliament. This visit was
the result of conversations with members at the recently held 'Abortion Law Reform Forum'.
In the process of talking about law reform, it became clear that lots
of people felt that parliamentary processes are confusing and
complicated. Given that parliament is there to give expression to what
we as voters want, this was concerning and so we decided to facilitate
a visit which explained how it all works. The visit took place on
Wednesday 1st October and all who attended were treated to afternoon
tea.
If you are interested in suggesting an event to take place in early
2009, please
contact Adriana on 94841666 or at info@whin.org.au.
