Gender Analysis Tool

whin-gender-analysis-tool-1WHIN has developed the Gender Analysis Tool to assist organisations and policy, program and health planners to produce work that is 'gender sensitive'. That is, to produce policies and services which acknowledge that women and men have different experiences, needs and access to wealth, resources and decision-making opportunities. This tool helps to draw attention to these differences, recognising that specific initiatives and resources may be required to rectify what is often a marginalised position for women.

The tool was primarily developed for use within local government and health promotion sectors, however it does have applicability beyond these areas.

The Gender Analysis Tool contains a brief rationale for why gender should be considered in planning, policy and service development; a 'Gender Analysis Planning Tool' which inclues a list of gender analysis prompts to consider at each step of a policy and project development process; and an 'Organisational Gender Checklist' to assist organisations in measuring and improving their approach to gender sensitive practice.

Pridentity: Inclusive Sexuality Education Kit

pid kit web-photoPridentity stands for pride + identity and is an education program to help students become informed about sexuality and sexual diversity, the myths and facts about same-sex attraction and transgender issues, homophobia and bullying, and gender stereotypes.

The Kit is designed for teachers and community workers. It  provides lesson plans, activities and links to further resources to support teaching practice that is inclusive, interactive and fun.

Love Control Resource Noteslove_control_resource_notes

In 2010 Resource Notes were created to accompany the Love Control DVD. The new Resource Notes look at:

  • How to use the DVD in a variety of settings (such as in individual support, schools, community groups, mixed gender groups and staff capacity building)
  • How to respond to questions created by  the DVD
  • How to use the DVD tool to its maximum prevention potential and
  • Enhancing accessibility to prevention messages through using the Plain English version of the notes.

These varied settings reflect the many sites within which young women are learning and interacting. It also highlights the many opportunities for preventative work available. Violence prevention is an active, collective and developmental process. The key messages of the DVD, and it’s goal as a prevention tool, are to honour women’s voices, create a safe debate, and develop young people’s critical thinking by informing them, seeding ideas and creating a secure emotional space with them. The Resource Notes aim to support these goals by being developmental and centred on learning sites and processes.

As a Women’s Health In the North (WHIN) copyrighted resource we are happy for you to screen LOVE CONTROL as a community education tool and for the purposes of research, planning or review as permitted under the Copyright Act 1968.  However, no part of it or the resource notes, may be reproduced, copied, and/or transmitted in any form or by any means (electronic, mechanical or graphic) without the prior written permission of Women’s Health In the North.

Evaluation Services

WHIN offers low-cost evaluation services to external agencies that undertake women’s health promotion work as a way of supporting agencies to build their capacity in this area. Our services can include everything from support and advice to undertaking a complete evaluation of a women’s project.

Working with external agencies in this way has a dual benefit. It builds the capacity of small organisations to continue to do great health promotion work for women and connects WHIN to agencies and women, resulting in an increased understanding of women’s needs and stronger partnerships that benefit women and the community.
