‘Side by Side’ is a respectful relationships and sexual and reproductive health program for women, girls and and gender-diverse people from countries that traditionally practise female genital cutting (FGC).
‘Side by Side’ is a respectful relationships and sexual and reproductive health program for women, girls and gender-diverse people from countries that traditionally practise FGC. The program differs from existing respectful relationships education programs in that the information is delivered by promoting existing primary prevention of gender-based violence efforts in communities that traditionally practise FGC. At the same time, the program addresses the issue of FGC in a sensitive, culturally appropriate manner.
Using cardboard leaves for students to write on their learnings from the program, project officers have developed an ‘evaluation tree’ (pictured). One student commented, ‘The best thing I learnt today is that men should respect women’s choices.’
‘Side by Side’ replaces the previous ‘Girls Talk Health’ (GTH) program and is currently being tested for delivery in various settings across the region. If you are interested in running ‘Side by Side’ at your school or community group, please get in touch with our team via firstname.lastname@example.org
The ‘Side by Side’ program is funded by the Australian Government’s Department of Social Services.
