LGBTI-Inclusive Emergency Services Training

LGBTI people’s high levels of discrimination and vulnerability are magnified during and after natural disasters, with increased prejudice from both emergency service personnel and other services, loss of LGBTI safe spaces and privacy, and increased fear and anxiety in accessing mainstream services including faith-based providers.

The Gender and Disaster Pod (GAD Pod) team is offering LGBTI-inclusive emergency service training. Led by Liam Leonard with 25 years experience in LGBTI health and wellbeing, this 3-hour course will assist professionals to increase their knowledge of LGBTI people and capacity to meet their particular needs. It will also assist individual staff and agencies in the ongoing development of organisational systems and professional practice that are inclusive of LGBTI people, and population diversity more broadly.
